I was searching through the net for information on Belgium , since I'm going to spend half a year in Brussels. I was a bit frightened by the fact that I will find myself far away from home , among strangers - but thanks to your essay I no longer am. You're right - foreigners rarely know something about Belgium and its people , their mentality and habits. Everybody knows some stereotypical features of the Italian, the French , the Germans...But Belgian? no way :)I don't claim that stereotypes are positive phenomenas , but they give us some kind of insight to the nation's culture. Superficial but usually true. Now I'm really looking forward my staying in Belgium - hope the people i'll meet there will surprise me pleasantly.
