ANNOTATION: The “Singularity” – Necessarily so?
Hopefully no singularity will be forthcoming. The problem with
making computers smart is the fact that no computer enjoys the
sheer amount of experience with the real world as a human being
obtains through normal living, and we do not have any way to
impart this to a machine directly at this point. Currently more
and more systems thinkers are arising. As they interact,
cybernetics states that they will form the substrate of a
metasystem transition, out of which will come thoughts and
direct actions creating the Global Brain. The role of machines
is that they form a synergism with humans, increasing the
powers of each. I certainly hope that a true singularity does
not come about, for we have little need for such chaos at this
point. It’s equivalent will be the Global Brain, something much
more desirable.
