ANNOTATION: Oops, you forgot the rest of the living world...
I am surprised to see intelligent individuals who pride themselves on the analisys of whole, complex systems, reduce their discussion of the progress of evolution only to humanity. If we look for a moment at the impacts of this net increase in HUMAN well-being, we quickly see that it is not a result of evolutionary progress, but of conversion of ecological health into monetary wealth. This is not progress, but entropic decay. Biological capital continues to grow, evolve, and maintains the well-being of its partners, but once converted to monetary wealth is largely used to further degrade the rest of the natural world. The loss in biological diversity, of atmospheric stability are warnign signs that evolution is degrading as a direct result of human behavior.
