direction of evolution
In my view, evolution in a metasystem can have no single definition of progress or regress.
Your "objective" measure seems to be a God's eye view of what you believe to be progress.
Others may not agree on your meaning of progress. Therefore, a single metasystem may not
be feasible (or expressible) because there will be no agreement on what postive or negative
"direction" means.

See my text on the "Direction of Evolution" for a refutation of the
idea that evolution has no direction, and a way to "measure" an objective increase in fitness.
