Why the World Doesn’t Suck (The Secret to (a happy) Life)

by: Roy Mitchell Taylor

Hello, how are you doing? I am writing this text to tell the world what I know and what I think. I have a very strong belief that this document will change your life. All that I am asking is that you take the Time out of your life to read it (I know how much Time you have wasted on other trivial matters).

The Universe was created. Of that we have no doubt. How and by whom, however, leads to all sorts of interesting discussions. I believe that it was created by some all-powerful grenade created by an all-powerful being that we affectionately refer to as "God." My personal belief is that He created this world and now sits watching, or lives among us, spying on and enjoying His creation, but not interfering, just watching. Or maybe He is Experiencing the world He created. But you can believe whatever you want, I know some people who think the whole thing started as some intergalactic fart, but it doesn’t matter, the fact is, it is here and so are we. I think therefore I am (I "act"{do stuff} so others know). Following me so far? Good, next point.

Now we come to an even more interesting question. Why are we here? What is our purpose? Hmmmm…that’s a tough one. See if you can accept this. We are here to live. Seems simple enough. What does that mean? To live? To breathe and eat and copulate and, excuse me, shit. Is that it? Is that why all this was made? Is that why so much Time has past and brought us to the point we are at today. This world we have today that is so cool that I can send this document, and I am, to nearly every single person on the planet, or at least hope that they will hear of it in a week or so. Why is it here, this Earth? Who cares? I kind-of do, but not enough to let it bother me. All I know is that I am here and the one single (and I do mean only!) sureness about my life is that it will end.

So what should I do while I’m here? Aaaah, now we get to the good part. This is a question that you have to answer for yourself. I know that sounds like a cop-out, but hear me out. The secret, or I guess I could say the trick, is to find out what you want to do. I know this sounds simple but think about it, take a couple minutes while your driving home from your job, or sitting on the couch during a commercial break, and think about what it is that you like to do. What is it that makes you happy? You can’t pick sex though, almost everybody likes that. What is it? Is it painting, writing, drawing, cooking, making million dollar deals, chess, making music, listening to music, making movies, farming, building, designing, creating, making, playing computer games(my personal favorite, more on that later), ANYTHING THAT YOU LIKE TO DO. Now do it.

I’m not saying just drop everything and do it. I’m saying make Time in your life (and Time is your ONLY true asset) to do what you want, WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY. If what you like takes money, work at a job you can stand until you can have enough to do what you want. If it doesn’t take money, take the TIME to do it. Think of ways you can change your life to MAKE Time to do what you want. What kind of feeling will you have when you find it, AND Do it? I’m glad you asked. You will wake up in the morning or afternoon or night, happy a new "day" has come. Excited and bouncing round the room (yea, I love Phish) because you are so happy to be alive. Living and breathing and eating and shitting and DOING WHAT YOU WANT TO. Try it, you’ll see, it works! You only have a certain amount of Time to be alive so why waste it on anything other than what you want to do. Look for other people who like what you do, and Talk to them. Share your knowledge and your expertise and you are certain to gain more. Spend Time Doing what you love with other people who love Doing it. Just do it.(sorry NikeJ)

There is another way you can make yourself happy. Help other people. Wait, don’t stop reading. Hear me out. There are a whole lot of us here, at last count somewhere near 7,000,000,000, that’s a lot. Here’s an Experiment you can try, while you are walking home, or in the mall, or in the park:

Take a little green piece of paper out of your wallet, or purse, or money-clip, or pocket. Remember, do this only if you can "afford" to. Pick one that has a bunch of 20s on it, or some 50s, or even, but only if you an "afford" it, a slip with a bunch of 100s on it. Now take this wood pulp and cloth and ink and hand it to another person. Not just any person. Look around and see if you can find anyone around who might could use that one piece of paper more than you. Maybe for some food, or a new jacket, or to go see a movie, or, I know this sounds crazy, buy a book (i.e. anything that they want to). If you get this money use some of it and pass it on, after all you got it for free right? If you need it all, use it all, don’t feel bad about. But, if can spare it and any more you might want to, pass it on. Dig in you couch and add the change up and give out paper equal to the metal amount. Anything. But hand pick the person to give the paper to.

Now watch their face. At first they will probably be suspicious, or scared, or nervous. If they become so, tell them to relax and introduce yourself. Then tell them that you would like to give them this "money" that someone gave you for giving Them some of your Time. Then strike up a conversation, find out where they are from, what they do, and most importantly, what they WANT to do, what they LIKE DOING(it might be the same as you or give you an idea on how to make your own life happier). See if this a) makes that person happy, or b) it makes you happy. (I am going to guess c) both a and b){pssst, I love parentheses and commas ,)} It’s a simple Experiment, try it. And try other stuff too. Open a door for someone, try and make someone laugh(trip on purpose, it works great), do one little thing, anything, to make someone else’s life a little easier or a little happier, it might only last a second but it could, and probably will, last longer. Try it.

Try it out. The whole package. Do it for a week, think about it 5 minutes a day, you have the Time. It could very easily change your life. You will see how it works. You must also remember that everything happens for a reason, nothing is random. It’s basically this simple, everything happens because of what happens directly before it. Trace back enough and you see patterns. Cars don’t move, planes don’t fly, the earth doesn’t revolve, men(and women) don’t die, without a reason. Look in you life for the reasons that it is how it is. Then ACCEPT what IS (it is how it is, crazy isn’t it?) Take RESPONSIBILITY for your actions (who else can you blame for them? Well, who?{hint: he or she is in every single mirror, check it out sometime}) Be selfish (neat word) about the things that make you happy. Then, if you are not happy, change what makes you that way. Do it slowly or quickly, but Do it, start today, or tomorrow, but Do it while you have the chance (i.e. you are Alive). Don’t let random things that inconvenience you, bother you. See them for what they are. The fallout of the actions of others. For every action there must be a reaction. Please remember this too, the only True Failure is to quit trying. Try it, try it all. You will see how simple it is. Get excited, get pumped, don’t ever forget that you are Alive. That the reason you were born is to be ALIVE. It works.

Thank you for your Time. I am writing this because I do believe each person has the ability to make their life as happy as mine is. I took me 22 years to put this all together(and two hours to write it), but you have it here in front of you. Don’t waste this opportunity(i.e. life). Have a nice day, really. That’s it folks, that the quote unquote "Secret to (a happy)Life". (if you didn’t catch it, the reason We are Here is TO BE HAPPY, there is no reason not TO BE. Discuss it with a friend, or an enemy, but THINK about it, TALK about it, DO IT)

Oh, yeah, I can PROVE IT.

If you have any questions, comments, observations, death-threats(please don’t). Send it to one of the addresses listed below:

rtaylor [at] trinity.edu And now for something completely different. If this document has benefited you in any way please read on:

My love as I mentioned earlier, is computer games (and my darling woman). I am now in the process of forming my own company and making my own game. I have played computer games since I was 5 years old and will until I’m ninety-five, but anyway, I have had a great idea and want to make a game. It is my life right now. It is the first thing I think about in the morning(except for my lovely girlfriend, who I might add, is utterly amazing, I’d tell you her name, but she asked me not to) and the last thing on my mind at night(see previous quote). It’s called "50" and is not unlike our own world, but neater! If you would like to help me out and achieve my dream I ask you to send me some of your green papers, I don’t care how much, but I can use your help (If you don’t want to send "money," I need some computers and software and help to make 50). I will remember who helps me and help you when you ask. If you have a love similar to mine, talk to me, help me make my dream come true. Give me some of your Time. (Then we’ll find your dream and make it real) If you think the ideas presented in this text are worthwhile or have a positive effect on your life please help me. If you don’t, then don’t. It won’t hurt my feelings (I’ll get what I want some other way J).

That’s all folks, sincerely. Later

P.S. If you would like to become a serious investor in my company I can send you a proposal on the investment, risks, and possible profit(which you and I can hand out on the street, if you want to)

I Hope you will share the contents of this text with others and discuss it. If you have questions don’t be afraid to ask because there are answers ("Why" is the most powerful word).
