Soul Survivors
Are we the only living souls
in this eternal universe?
It doesn’t seem quite possible
unless we are the last or first
What’s all that other stuff out there?
All those planets and comets?
They say we couldn’t breathe the air
so there’s no life, and that is it
Millions and millions of planets
in this sea of infinity
Only one with inhabitants
is beyond probability
What about all those UFO’s?
all those people claim they have seen
Why do they come, and then they go?
Could it be they think we are mean?
Perhaps they see how we behave,
with our prejudice, guns and wars
Could be they think earth is not safe
and choose to quickly shift their course
It seems a bit preposterous
to think we are the only ones
That all this exists just for us
the moon, the stars, the rising sun
We seek signs of intelligence
on each planet except our own
To see if there might be a chance
we missed something we should have known
We send rockets to outer space
to figure out the universe
But they come back without a trace
of humans, mammals, fish or birds
Maybe each planet is unique
what we call life is something else
Without any form or physique
without any skin, bones or cells
There is no need for atmosphere
without bodies to be sustained
All of the things we hold so dear
just might be figments of our brains
Until the day we graduate,
we will not know what’s going on
When our bodies disintegrate,
we’ll comprehend the great beyond
