ANNOTATION:
Evolution Facilitated by Will

On my first visit to your site, I am impressed and overwhelmed to find other free thinkers who are searching for rational methods whereby to ultimately "survive" death with consciousness intact. A few comments on the will to immortality:
  • 1) As a species, we have become so programmed to see ourselves as helpless urchins at the mercy of invisible deities that I fear the word "will" has become interchangeable with "faith" in many cultures, and this is clearly counter-productive to evolution. The will is, in my opinion and based on personal experimentation and experience, the invisible force which is capable of affecting the (seemingly) external reality -- i.e., the will is the force which causes the hand to move. It is not the "thought" to move the hand, nor is it any connection of muscles, tissues & bones. It is the RESULT of the muscles responding to thought, but the force which actually causes the hand to move is invisible, untrackable, a thing of spirit far more than anything of flesh.
  • 2) Though it is not always possible to invoke will by thought or on-command (funny that the will cannot seemingly be summoned "at will"), it is interesting to note that seemingly it is a force of will which enables a 90 pound woman to life a 2 ton truck off her infant son -- an invisible force which interacts with reality, but in ways we cannot yet comprehend or even directly perceive. Physics would tell us that the 90 pound woman simply cannot lift the 2-ton truck, yet "will" enables her to do so because she must. To dismiss this as "adrenaline" is, of course, ludicrous. Adrenaline increases strength, to be sure, but it does not make us super-human. The will clearly can.
  • 3) Is it also an action of will which causes a remission from cancer or other terminal illnesses? It has been observed that people who fall in love during the course of a terminal illness can and often do enter full remission. And in some cases, it has even been observed that people with "incurable" illnesses can be directed through visualization and other similar methods to CREATE their own remission -- i.e., through what appears to be a directed invocation of the will, people have cured themselves of incurable illnesses.
  • 4) I feel these observations are important because of one critical element: IF WE CAN USE THE WILL TO CURE OURSELVES OF TERMINAL ILLNESSES, IF WE CAN USE THE WILL TO PERFORM SUPER-HUMAN FEATS, IS IT NOT POSSIBLE TO INTENTIONALLY INVOKE THE WILL AS A MEANS TO OUR OWN INDIVIDUAL AND "IMMEDIATE" EVOLUTION? We have come to believe that evolution is a process requiring millions of years and countless mutations, yet clearly those who invoke the will to cure themselves of illnesses are causing changes to the body right down to the cellular level. If we can do this on the level of self-healing, why not on the level of self-willed evolution? The only limits, it seems, are those we place on ourselves through our limited (and admittedly programmed) perceptions. If and when we can learn to re-set and restructure those "automatic" programs which are a byproduct of being human, we will have learned to DIRECT our evolution and our future instead of just passively waiting for it to happen TO us
.

Thanks for listening. I'm always interested in hearing from others with similar ideas.

REPLY: Evolutionary will

The writer has rightly challenged individual persons to show some backbone of will. He points out that personal will has cured cancer, and overcome other seemingly unattainable goals. In a spirit of concord I would like to add (not redundantly I hope)the following: We need to distinguish individual will and cosmic Will. To explain, science has decreed their immaculate conception of "evolution". They have allowed the world to believe that "it" is a self operating mechanism, driven mostly the need for survival. They let it go at that, not attributing a deeper cause. Is that because too many scientists are wary of the bearded, cloud-lounging god in the sky, the god of the medieval paintigs, the straw-god of the atheists? The atheists would have us choose evolution operated by that god, or take the godless evolution of scientism that has been an excuse for materialism, nihilism and the rest of the destructionism and social anarchy they promote. We cannot deny the march of natural selection, but we can insist that the right kind of God is the cause. The natural God is not a dictator, but a motivator. God Spirit is the original cosmic Will, the motivation of all energy, including the volition behind the urge for all of life's survival. I've coined the word "EvoLITION" to replace the old baggage-laden evolution. Sure, it's a remote cause. But it's worth the try. For more on this look up www.livingguidelines.com
