ANNOTATION:
Hofstadter's Definition of "God"

Douglas Hofstadter in his epic "Godel, Escher, Bach" came up
with a very serviceable definition of God. God is the hierarchy
of all the systems at a higher level than your own in the
General System. Now, pantheism isn't so far from that, in that
it includes all the ones below you as well, including yourself.
Thus the statement "I am God" should not be looked on as
blasphemous under this definition. Maybe it also explains the
people housed in mental institutions who are convinced that they
are God. They're right. You know, fantastic insight into the
mysteries of the Universe gets pretty heavy, and can very well
drive some people insane. Thus we might establish a good
heuristic to go by:

Fantastic Insight = Insanity

So maybe we should cut a little slack to those we look down on
as "mentally ill", whatever that means.
