ANNOTATION: freedom as the measure of accessible variety (corrected)
A concept of freedom as the measure of accessible variety in some space of states is slightly better in the context of cybernetics then a concept of «free will», is it?
In this case we can consider local freedom as a variety of accessible directions of moving and global freedom as variety of accessible ways and aims. If we increase dimension of our space by adding time and money axis of coordinates, we’ll be able consider getting aims at a given time and at a given cost. Then we may consider partners as factor of freedom, ways of getting freedom, freedom of the first and second order and so on.
This definition allows to consider freedom even in deterministic picture of the world, for example in mechanics.
A «free will» reflects only our opinion about real freedom, our preferences and choices. It is a subject for psychologist but not for cybernetics.
