ANNOTATION: Cybernetics abhors prejudice and racism
Cybernetics should appeal greatly to anyone who is non-racist
and free of prejudice. For one of its basic principles is that
the substrate of a system should not matter, it’s the higher
level, emergent properties which do. I.e., the race of a person
is to be ignored, what counts is the intelligence, good morals,
ethics and values issuing forth from them as judged by the
Turing test. Thus when SETI establishes contact with
extraterrestrials we should in theory not even care what they
look like and instead be satisfied with the content of the
dialog. But assuredly their appearance would be the first thing
we’d want to know.
