ANNOTATION:
memes in social insect societies
Memes exist because of language or communication in some form. Does anyone out there know if a hive of bees went extinct because of faulty information? Does their ability to communicate derive completely from cellular origins, without "thought" and are such bits of knowledge only for the survival of the group? Could a scout or worker bee ever get a fad or ludicrous idea that would spread to the detriment of the host?
