Definition of culture
I think we need to start fresh with a strong definition of culture. Anthropological definitions miss the point a bit, sometimes. I believe that culture is the second replicator, after biology's genes. Culture is not carried through genes but through memes. culture is adaptive and has fitness, just as do genes, but culture acts in extremely different ways.
culture is limited by biology and influenced by the physical world. But culture is endlessly creative, as is biology.
culture is also much much faster than biology, and thus has unique properties.
