humankind" and find it empty.

Isn't this what the entire history of the sciences and humanities
 has been trying to figure out since the beginning of time?

The definition of the human condition is grounded in the foundation
not knowing, and the adventure/excitement of it all is the
pursuit of trying to figure it out, even given the inherent 
limitation of being human.

Also curious to find some of the "empirical evidence" you've listed
as part of this search.
